RC GEMS "Christmas in July" Welcomes the Rotary Year 20-21 "Rotary Opens Opportunities"

The true heart of Rotarians - dedicated and passionate with the true spirit of service "service above self" persists among the members of RC Makati GEMS as the club celebrated "Christmas in July" amidst the challenges of these trying times. Inspired by the first Filipino Rotary International President Matt Caparas and furthered by the RI Director Raffy Garcia, the spirit of giving on the first day of the rotary year never ceases among the members of GEMS. Each year, since the founding of the club in 2009, GEMS holds the advocacy of giving love and gifts to the children through the project "Christmas in July". In this rotary year (2020 -2021), with the theme "Rotary Opens Opportunities", the spirit of giving was extended to the frontliners who are our heroes in fighting against the pandemic. RC Makati Gems with its co-host club RC Fort Bonifacio Global City involved the parents of the children as the recipients of the club

GEMS Adopt A School Project

Parallel to the “Be the Inspiration” 2018   theme of the Rotary Clubs, adopting a school not only inspires the students and teachers of the schools that need assistance but also paves the way to a brighter future of the next generation. As part of District 3830, RC Makati Gems fulfills its vision through pioneering in adopting a senior high school. The Gems popular for its glamorous events and fabulous members partnered with Jose Maria Panganiban to provide its needs as a starting stand-alone senior high school. The formalization of the partnership between Jose Maria Panganiban High School headed by the Principal Mr Edwin Abengoza and Rotary Makati Gems under IP Ana Liliosa M. Understanding Marijuana

Studies have proven the success of "medical marijuana" in treating incurable illnesses. While this alternative medicine is legalized to use in many countries, it remains its uphill battle in the Senate. To shed light on the nature, characteristics and uses of the "Medical Marijuana", the RC Makati Gems, in collaboration with three other clubs from 3830, piloted a seminar/lecture advocated by Dr. Tony Pobre, the only Filipino doctor who legal to distribute Medical Marijuana in the country last August 24, 2018 at Makati Sports Club. A ttended by 16 Rotarians from three different clubs in the district, the event became triumphant in spreading absolute and valuable information about the medicine. Thank you Dr. Tony! Drug Addiction Talk

     Raising the awareness on drug addiction engaged Rotarians to lead healthy and meaningful lives. As leaders in the communities, being equipped with drug education enables Rotarians to develop strategies when challenging situations on drug abuse arise. Being knowledgeable on the nature and the harmful effects of drugs helps Rotarians become more effective leaders of the communities.      To provide an effective drug education assistance, the Rotary Club of Makati GEMS organized a Seminar on Drugs on July 26, 2018, Thursday, 5p.m., at Salcedo Room, Makati Sports Club. Kagawad Robert Ty defined drug addiction and drew a picture of the life a drug addict. He also straightened out the factors and the effects of drug abuse.       The event was accentuated by eighteen admirable GEMS members headed by the club’s Inspiring President Ana Santos.       Congratulations, GEMS!Job well done!

The 1st Baybayin Festival

With its mission to preserve the Filipino language that signifies the liberty of the Filipino people, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Paranaque BF Homes, led by VIP Lito Villarin, supported by Hon. Edwin L. Olivarez, mayor of Paranque City, TAKLOBO BAYBAYIN INC. launched the 1 st Baybayin Festival on August 24, 2018 at Paranaque Sports Complex.  The event gathered 18 elementary schools and eight high schools in public, producing more than a thousand of students who benefited from the seminar/workshop handled by Mr. Jay Enage. The half-day program covered Multimedia information, lectures and discussions on the Baybayin alphabet – its origin, history and method. Dancing with The Gems

    Getting high on the groove of music among fellow Rotarians, relatives, friends, colleagues and associates for a cause was the radiant image conveyed by the recent dance occasion hosted by the RC Makati Gems last August 17, 2018 at the exclusive dance floor of Makati Sports Club.       Attended by more than 50 guests from the affable invitations of the GEMS, the night was filled with the glitters of laughter and shimmer of pleasure. Among the notable guests are IP Jhong Torres from RC Alabang Centrepoint, Rtn, Liza Carlos Timbol of Rotary Club of Makati Business District and some distinguished Assistant Governors from District 3830.       The Dance with the Gems was a dazzling dance and fund-raising event aiming to support the needs of the orphans in Bahay Aruga and Tahanan ng Pagmamahal, the two adopted orphanages of RC Makati Gems.       It was a night when everybody seemed to paint the town red but with the heart to help the children in need, one classy way of Gems in ma
